What is LEGAL / ILLEGAL? ( Motor Vehicle Laws )

The British Columbia law states that:

  • No more than 75mm from the top of the windshield can be tinted.
  • The front driver and passenger side windows are illegal to tint.
  • Any film on head or tail lights is prohibited.

What is the warranty period for your window tint?

Depending on the brand of film, our limited warranty coverage ranges from 3 – 5 years covering cracking, bubbling, or peeling.

How long does it take to for the tint to dry?

Your new tint will take a few days up to one week to completely dry. During the drying period, you will see white hazy and bubbly. The windows that can roll up and down; you must allow the film to cure for at least 3-5 days (after installation) before lowering the windows.

Maintenance of my new window film

Our window film is durable and virtually maintenance-free. However, to ensure you a longer-lasting tint please:

  • DO NOT use abrasive pad cleaners or industrial strength glass cleaners ( do not use any product with ammonia, such as windex).
  • DO NOT rub on the film with any edged articles such as scrapers, razor blades, nails etc.
  • DO NOT post heavily gummed signs, tapes, suction cups etc. Avoid “N”/ “L” stickers on the film.
  • USE a soft cloth with a mild soap or vinegar and water solution to clean the film or you can purchase an ammonia-free glass cleaner at our store.

Common defects misinterpreted

Many vehicles contain black ceramic ‘grit’ edges or dots called dot matrix around the rear windows which are applied from the factory. After film installation, there may appear hazy lines around the lass. These are completely unavoidable as the film is unable to stick completely to the glass.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Can PPF be installed on your windshield?

No, XPEL Paint protection film cannot be installed on your windshield. Due to the impact absorbency of the paint protection film, the refractive index of the film is too different from that of the windshield. Because of this difference, putting the two together causes a distortion when looking through the glass that would be unacceptable to the vehicle’s occupants.

Can I run my car through a car wash?

Yes, but please wait at least 48 hours after installation to allow the film to dry completely.

Can the Film be waxed?

While you can wax the film, be sure the product you are using doesn’t contain Naphtha or Kerosene in concentrations over 5% and avoid waxes that contain dyes.

What is the warranty of PPF?

Our Xpel Ultimate Plus Series Films are warrantied for 2 years. This warranty covers: yellowing, staining, delaminating, cracking, peeling, bubbling, and more.

How do I maintain PPF after installation?

No special maintenance is required for Xpel Ultimate Plus. However, the film will last longer if it is cleaned often.

How deep of a scratch can the “self-healing” film heal?

The clear coat is the self-healing layer and is approximately 13 microns thick. If that layer is penetrated, the film will not heal.

Can I cover my whole vehicle with PPF?

Yes. Most smooth painted surfaces can be covered with paint protection film.

Can I use a pressure washer, and how soon after install?

Yes, pressure washers can be used on XPEL paint protection films, provided the film has completely dried after installation (typically 48 hours) and provided the high-pressure water is not pointed directly at the edges of the film.

Can the Film be removed?

Yes. The film can be removed and it is highly unlikely that OEM paint will be harmed during this process.
